Dane Barclay is a performance consultant thatĀ helps athletes, coaches, and team leaders with practical tools to achieve their peak performance potential.
With more than fifteen years as a psychologist with qualifications including Masters of Applied Psychology (Sport and Exercise) and Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), Dane's work has centred on the intersection of psychology, systems thinking, and lived experience — helping people and teams build clarity, composure, and capacity in high-pressure environments.
He is a member of the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC), the Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPi), and the Australian Psychological Society (APS). He is founder and director of Barclay Consulting and Humans at the Edge, Principal Psychologist and Director at Bellarine Psychology in Ocean Grove, and was a founding partner of The Performance and Sport Psychology Clinic in Melbourne.
Dane's expertise extends to the realm of mental fitness and he brings a wealth of experience in performance and sport psychology, where he helps individuals and organisations to build psychological flexibility and achieve peak performance. He works with a diverse clientele, including:
- Universities: Dane consults with universities, specifically supporting masters students within their sport psychology programs. He also offers workshops and mentoring on the psychology of peak performance strategies for high-performing programs.
- Mentoring and Supervising Organisations: He collaborates and mentors to organisations to equip coaches and trainers with the knowledge to nurture mental well-being, leadership and peak performance in their teams. Dane has consulted for a range of state and national bodies, including Athletics Victoria, GPC Squad, and Tri-Alliance Victoria.
- World-Class Clubs and Athletes: Dane provides individual consultations and workshops for athletes competing on the world stage, helping them overcome performance anxiety, build strong team dynamics, and navigate challenges that can impact their success. He has worked with Olympians, Commonwealth Games medalists, Ironman World Championship participants and other elite athletes.
- Media and Events: Dane has written for and provided commentary in a variety of national publications and has appeared on national television, radio and several podcasts discussing topics relating to performance psychology. He also frequently presents at events and conferences, with some highlights including the World Congress on Science and Medicine in Cricket, and TEDxQueenstown.
